Opening ceremony

Prime Minister’s official mission to Dornogobi aimag is continuing in Zamyn-Uud soum. He attended the opening ceremony of the ‘Gegeen’ 15 MW solar power plant on June 21.

The solar power plant was constructed by ‘Naran teeg’ company with investments from Shigemitsu Shoji Group and Sharp Corporation from Japan, and 'Erchim Teeg' Company from Mongolia. ‘Gegeen’ plant was designed with latest technologies resistant to extreme weather conditions in Mongolia and has the capacity to produce 32 million kW of energy annually.

With the commissioning of the power plant, greenhouse gas emission will be reduced by 834 thousand tons, in addition to saving of 27 thousand tons of coal and 202 thousand tons of water. It will also make a real contribution to the Government goal to generate 30 percent of total electricity production from renewable energy by 2030. It is estimated that the power plant will create 20 permanent workplace and accumulate revenue of MNT 37.11 billion to the state budget within 25 years.


The power plant will fulfill the increasing demand for electricity in the region, where Sainshand Industrial Park, Zamyn-Uud free economic zone and major mining projects to be implemented, and improve stability and reliability of the integrated network in the future.
